I'd always offer, but they would not accept it.

It's been a craptacular week, with only a few bright spots. I got a DS Lite, as I mentioned last post. Other than that it's a crappy week.

I have no one to talk to pretty much all week. I usually only have one person to talk to anyway. I think I kind of pissed her off. She says no, but she's much more safety valve the few times I talked to her. I am probably just over thinking it. It's hard not to over think things when you've got as much time as me sitting in front of the computer just waiting for someone to talk to.

That's what I'm doing now. Anyone on? Nope.

I always wonder if it's Livejournal bringing out the emoness in me or does it just spew out of me non-stop. Probably the second one. People have always mentioned that to me, at least online. I tend to hide that part of me elsewhere. I doubt anyone besides those online know about it. I should just stop it. No but's about it.

I've been playing Spore today. It's a lot more fun to me than people seem to say it is. I'm loving it, and no I'm not in denial. I guess it's just my kind of game.

I wish things were back to the way they were before this week. I doubt it. Everything is changing isn't it? Isn't it?

So, what's new?

  • Sep. 16th, 2008 at 10:30 PM

So I haven't posted any crap here in a while. Let's see what's new...

I've got a DS Lite now, it's one of those new Limited Edition black, gold, silver Pokémon ones.

I was an asshole to my only friend a couple days ago. I have no idea how this person feels about it. I haven't had a chance to ask them (maybe this person doesn't want to talk about it).

I'm lonely as hell. My goal this year other than getting a job was to make more friends. Let's see how that is going...

I started the year off by going out with this girl I met from Facebook. I went out with her again like a couple weeks later. Well, I don't know if those were really dates, but if they weren't they were the most date-like things I've been on. I haven't spoken to her in a while though...

Then like a couple months ago I met this girl at my part time job. She was from Hong Kong like me. She was rather cute. I even went to go see a movie with her, but the whole thing didn't seem like a date. Well, then I tried just being friends with her...well I haven't spoken to her for weeks...great job.

There's this guy friend I made at work, we went to see The Dark Knight. I guess, I'm still talking to him, but I don't know how to be more of a friend than a co-worker.

So, yeah that's it. 9 months or so summarized in a few paragraphs. My life is sure exciting. Maybe it's just my story telling abilities. Anyway, I hope that I can achieve my goal during these last few months of the year.

Help from a million miles away...

I have a friend who just got dumped. Really dumped not broke up, because it was not a mutual agreement. She is sad because she still loves him. He doesn't seem to care too much because he is apparently playing Halo with his friends. He means so much to her, yet it doesn't seem like she means much to him. I'm sure he cares, but how much?

Oh how I wish I could comfort her. She is my best friend, and possibly my only friend. And she lives a million miles away. I hate it when my friends are sad, because it makes me sad. I really care too much. She'll be on my mind all day every day. I'll be wondering if she is doing better.

I wish I was nearer, but alas I fear I'd be no help. I never know what to say to comfort people. I always end up saying nothing. I'm sure it comes off as not caring, but oh I care so much. If only I knew what to say; if only I was able to make everything better.

I wish that she'll feel better. I wish I was nearer. I wish I could help. Please, just grant me a wish.

reCAPTCHA: Stop Spam, Read Books

Link: reCAPTCHA

reCAPTCHA We’ve all seen CAPTCHA before on the net, those little distorted words used to confirm that we’re in fact human. reCAPTCHA takes this idea and adds the usefulness by making everyone read old books one word at a time. Intrigued? Here’s why it’s being done and how it works:

In order for the internet to truly be the “information superhighway” several projects are currently actively digitizing text written before the digital age. Pages of text are scanned into the computer and a computer program using “Optical Character Recognition” (OCR) figures out what the letters are. The problem with OCR is that computers can’t read text as well as humans can, so the resulting words are typo-prone.

reCAPTCHA makes humans do the work that only humans can do, read distorted but readable text. Instead of just a random arbitrary distorted word to confirm we’re human, we are given a word that computers can’t read and one word that some other human have already read. Each reCAPTCHA we do helps take another step to fully digitizing these books. You can find more information on the reCAPTCHA home page.

Corn Farmers affected by P2P?

Worms Help Ruin NBC's Corn Farmer Story

Because of our nation’s interlocking economy, two-thirds of the lost earnings and lost jobs are in industries other than motion picture production. For example, in the absence of movie piracy, video retailers would sell and rent more titles. Movie theatres would sell more tickets and popcorn. Corn growers would earn greater profits and buy more farm equipment.

Yeah I'm sure the outrageous pricing on popcorns and all other concessions sold at movie theaters don't hinder the sale of popcorn at all.

New Branchie Music

Mandy Moore’s new album “Wild Hope” supposedly has a song co-wrote by Michelle Branch. A look at the Wikipedia entry reveals that none of the songs on the new album is written by Branch. However, in the B-sides section, the very last song, called “Terminal”, is co-written by both Branch and Jessica Harp. Interesting, although a search for imports of the album in Google has so far turned up empty.

My Graduation

So I haven't posted in about 6 - 7 months. Not that I'm too busy to post, I'm just lazy. No one is (or was) reading it anyway. On May 31 I should be walking at my Graduation Ceremony in the Radio City Music Hall. I technically won't be graduating till after Summer though. I still have 4.5 credit I need, so I am taking 5 credits in the Summer. Man I need a job soon. I hope my resume is good enough. I'm so lost. Maybe I should go to business school. Or get my Master's degree in Comp. Sci. But then I need to take the GRE. I have to study for it. Maybe I will...

I don't know if anyone saw this video of Robin Williams play-testing Spore, but it's pretty funny! And the mini-interview afterward of Mr. Williams is pretty good too. I didn't even know he's that big of a gamer. I mean he even knows what Populous & SimLife is!

Skip to about 23:33 to see the Robin Williams part.

My Chemical Romance & Dune

My Chemical Romance wrote a song based on a song from the Dune soundtrack. They mentioned this bit of info in this interview I got off of iTunes Store.

Haha, I think that's very cool. Dune! Anyone ever watched movie Dune? Or played the game (Dune II was the best one)? Or read the novels? Or even the TV miniseries?

Oh and that song My Chemical Romance wrote was Sleep, the based on song was Final Dream, Track 16 of the Dune soundtrack.

Lol upon hearing this I just became a bigger fan of them!

Yes I'm a big geek and nerd, I love Dune. :p

P.S. Look in my current music. Is that not one of the longest song titles you've ever seen?

Anyone heard of this animated film before?

It predates Disney’s Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs and is in a style unlike any other films. It features “a silhouette technique…which involved manipulated cutouts made from cardboard and thin sheets of lead under a camera.” YouTube has the trailer of the film in Japanese (it only has subtitles in the style of silent films).
